Dustin had last week off, so we got to have him home. :) This means he finally had a chance to put the nursery furniture together. Along with some other little projects back there.

Merry Christmas

A few highlights from our Christmas day. We were reminded again this year how very blessed we are with so many wonderful family and friends to spend Christmas with.

Doing stockings on Mommy and Daddy's bed. We actually woke them up this year, so we'd have plenty of time before church.

Christmas Eve

Christmas Eve was spent together as a family, just enjoying the day. We spend the morning in our jammies, just being a family. After lunch and naps we got ready and headed out for the day's plans. Our first stop was the fire station a couple blocks away. We often walk by this station in the summer and admire the fire trucks, and started a new tradition last year by taking cookies to the firemen on Christmas Eve. So we talked to the boys about taking the cookies to the firemen to thank them for keeping us safe and working on Christmas Eve. Of course they both clammed up when we got there and wouldn't say a word to the nice man who answered the door, but Nathan did at least hand him the plate of cookies.

From there, we headed to Dustin's folks for our Christmas with them. Some highlights of the rest of our Christmas Eve:

Well I had my 22 week checkup with the babies, and an ultrasound yesterday. Everything looked great! The babies are both weighing in at a whopping 1lb 2oz. :) They are only a day apart size wise, which is good. They want them to be fairly close to the same size. So far they're cooperating! They've flipped directions from where they were. Baby Boy is now head down and Baby Girl is now breech. They were the other way! :)

Well, our clean mud and water beads both went bad on us. So it was time to find something new for the sensory box. I found a bag and a half of wheat flour in my cabinet that I didn't see using any time soon. So, I added some measuring cups and spoons and they went at it. To my wonderful family and friends. I apologize, I'm SO behind! :) Last week was a crazy week. Dustin had a rush project at work and was working 16 hour days. This made for a long week for me on my own with the boys. I was also sick all week and taking care of a sick Connor. So not much blogging done then! This week has been a little better. I finally gave in and got some antibiotics from my OB, so I'm on the mend. Nathan seems to have caught a mild version of what Connor and I had so we've just been taking it easy this week. Now, to catch up...

A Halloween Preview

If you know my darling oldest child at all, it should be no surprise that he's going to be Batman this year. :) He wanted to be, "Batman with the shiny belt". This means the blue batman. So...the search began for pieces and supplies to put it together. I was able to find this mask and cape on Amazon. They came in the mail Friday. He wore them for the rest of the day. :) He saw this picture of himself and said, "I look pretty cool" :)

Well, last weekend was the Lichty reunion. It was gorgeous weather, and a good time was had by all. I have way too many pictures to post all, so here's some highlights:

Well, I had my 18 week ultrasound today. We're having a boy and a girl! The babies measure within a couple of days of how far along I am. So they're as big as they should be. They both weigh 8 oz and looked great!

This is the best shot she could get of both babies together. Baby girl is on top. The circle on the top right is her head. Then below the line is baby boy, laying on his side.

Sensory Box

Well we made a new sensory box over the weekend. I had ordered some Water Beads, which are used in flower arrangements I guess. They come as little beads that you put in a big tub of water over night and they swell up. They end up being gel like balls. So we tried some out this weekend. They were definitely a hit.

This morning we stacked the water bead box on top of the light box for a little added interest. Fun fun. :)

So, as I've been playing on Pinterest.com I have come across some DIY lightboxs. They looked like something fun to try for the kiddos. So I made one. I had an empty tub that I lined with foil to reflect the light back up towards the lid. I put a string of Christmas lights in the box, covered it with an old pillow case I cut apart, and put on the lid. So, that's it. It does give an added element to play by adding light. The kids had a ball with it this morning.

The little ones chose to just play with the colored discs.

I had several transparency teaching items left from my school days, so the big boys ended up play mostly with those. Especially the clocks and coins.

Clean Mud

Today's adventure: we made clean mud. I had done this with my kids at the daycare, but had forgotten about it. Then I stumbled upon the directions for it again and new my kiddos would love it.

I shaved 2 bars of ivory soap, and the boys help me shred 2 rolls of toilet paper into it.

Then I poured warm water in and we mixed it up. As the soap "melted" it all combined into our "mud". Very fun!

Mr Fussy Hands ended up being the one playing the longest. Quite surprising! The face is because he didn't want his picture taken. :)

Puffy Paint

Today's project was puffy paint. The big boys had a lot of fun with this. Connor was busy playing cars and Hannah was still napping, so Nathan and Jacob and I did this one.

This one was pretty easy. We mixed 1 tablespoon of salt and 1 tablespoon of flour with enough water to make a smooth consistency. Then we added the food coloring of their choice.

Connor did come see what we were up to, so he painted a little too.

The boys painted the paint onto cardboard and then the fun part was next. We put their pictures in the microwave for 30 seconds and they puffed up and got hard. It was very neat. :) They each had to stand on a stool in front of the microwave to watch the magic happen. I was spotting them, or there'd be pictures of that too! :)

Nesting, I think

So, this afternoon I got the bug to revamp the playroom a little.
I think I'm nesting already.
I seem to be doing everything else early with these babies, why not nest too? :)

The first thing we did was create a reading corner. We took the books off the bookshelf and put them in the baskets. It's funny how changing where something is kept makes it like new. They both sat down and looked at books after we put this cozy little corner together.

After taking the books off the bookshelf, I was able to completely devote it to the craft supplies.
Nathan has dubbed this the "project center." The little trash can and alphabet poster were added after a quick dollar tree run.

My wonderful husband hung this felt board up and I attached a section of a shoe organizer to the bottom to hold the felt pieces.

I ran out of steam (and it was time to make supper) before I got to this section of the playroom. So when the mood strikes again, this will be my next project. It could use some serious organizing.

Crayon Letters

So, I recently discovered pinterest.com It's described as a "virtual pinboard". You can "pin" pictures and links of things you find on the web to your board. Anyway, I found this idea on there and had to try it.

I think they turned out great!

A few boxes of crayons, a couple of frames, paper, and some tacky glue and we're off!

I printed their initials in BIG font and we glued them to some scrapbook paper.

Something wonderful happened this weekend. I got a DISHWASHER, and a beautiful "new" kitchen to go with it. My amazing Dad, Grandpa, Father-in-Law, and Husband worked Friday evening and Saturday to transform our kitchen. Here are some pictures from the transformation:

Another fun day was had by all here at the Lafferty house. Today we made sidewalk paint and painted with the watercolors we made yesterday. In addition to the projects, we took a walk this morning, played out back, and played in the sprinkler this afternoon.

Today was one of my 2 "off" days from this week babysitting. The boys and I had such a fun day together. This morning we went to the park and played. There wasn't anyone else there and the boys had a blast having the run of the place. After lunch and naps we made a quick run to dollar tree for supplies and made a few concoctions I found online today.

Daddy even played when he got home too. :) The boys were having fun blowing bubbles in it too, I didn't seem to catch any of them before they popped!

We made some bathtub paint tonight for bath time too. They had SO much fun.

Big Boy Swing

A playdough day

Well, yesterday was Monday. Monday's aren't typically the best day with the kiddos. Everyone is tired and it tends to be a cranky day. I had all six yesterday and was determined to not have a terrible day. (The previous Monday was!) So, we made playdough. I figured this would keep them busy not only during the making but certainly during the playing. We went outside to play while we waited for it to cool. So it ended up taking up a pretty good chunk of the morning.

We passed the pan around and around the table giving everyone a chance to dump ingredients in and to stir.

Pigeon Forge

The last week of July, we took our first solo family vacation. (Last year we went to Myrtle Beach with Mom, Dad, Meg, and Adam) I must say our first vaca without help went great! We did a short trip, leaving on Wednesday and getting home Saturday afternoon. We were all pretty exhausted when it was over, but we all had a lot of fun. A few pictures from our trip:

Busy Girl

Goodness, I am behind again. One would think that being a stay at home mom would mean I'd have all kinds of time to keep up with this. Ha! That "one" must not know my boys. :) Yep, they keep me pretty busy. Add to that babysitting and I'm a pretty busy girl. I've had 2 extra babysitting kids the last couple of days too. We're about to see a change in the babysitting situation. Tony and Evie, who have been with us just over 2 years will be leaving us. Their last day is next Friday. God, in his ever amazing timing, presented 2 other kids who need babysitting now who will be taking their place. They will only be three days a week, so I'll have a couple of days "off" each week. This will definitely help as this pregnancy progresses and I find myself needing more rest.

Anyway, back to the point. I'm behind on putting up some pictures. We went to Pigeon Forge a couple weeks ago and I've yet to get those up. Plus a few since. I'll try and get caught up soon. I'll be honest, this Blogger site drives me nuts. I've always thought it could be a little more user friendly. Although Dustin would probably tell me it's not the program but "user error". :-P

So, stay tuned there's more to come. I haven't forgotten!

Yep, I used all caps for the title of this one because it has been that HOT. So this morning the kids and I went out at 9 am to play in the water. There was certainly no way we were going out in that heat later in the day!

I have found if I don't fill the top ring of this pool, then we can put the little slide in over the side. Then I set the sprinkler up next to it so it goes on the slide. They have quite a lot of fun sliding into the water.

Today we took the boys to the forestry over in Brownstown.

It was a fun afternoon, but boy are we all tired tonight!

Nathan was very excited about the "adventure" we told him we were going on. He took off up the stairs ready to get started! :)

Connor wasn't quite as sure about all those steps...

We took turns carrying Connor when he wanted it. Those little legs just can't do much hiking.

We unknowingly chose to do the "rugged" trail. Whew. We ended up just going up part way and coming back down.

They have a couple of playgrounds there too.

This week Nathan had his last soccer game of the season. He even kicked a goal in! The boys all got medals at the end. He was so proud of his!

Well, I write this bursting with pride. (In a good way of course) Nathan went out and played with his team tonight at soccer!!! :) He went right out there like he'd done it a hundred times and had a ball.

Tonight was the kick-off for the summer reading program at the public library. We took the boys and all four of us signed up.

Memorial Day 2

Sunday and Monday of the long weekend were spent with the Laffertys. They got a slip and slide and a beach ball sprinkler for the boys. Lots of fun followed.

Memorial Day

We spent the Saturday of Memorial Day in Greensburg. It ended up being a really nice day and we were able to spend quite a bit of time outside.

Connor with Great Grandpa playing with some rocks. Mom and Dad have rocks in all their landscaping and the boys are quite taken with them.

Mom made some patriotic cupcakes so Nathan got to help put the little flags in them. He was so proud!

5/23 Mud!

The boys found a couple of mud puddles. When it comes to kids and play, I've always been of the opinion that it's not a big deal to clean up a mess if a good fun experience was had. This day was no exception. I let them have at it in those mud puddles. They had so much fun. :) They definitely got stripped down and hosed off and then taken inside straight to the tub after this.

One thing you learn as a parent of a toddler is that quiet is not necessarily a good thing. In our house, it usually means someone is up to something. In this case it was Nathan, and the baby powder. When asked, "Nathan, what are you doing?!" his response was that he was making it a "snowy day". I'm still trying to get all the baby powder wiped off those toys.

5/19 Soccer Game

We kept Nathan home from his first soccer game because he still had a pin in his finger. So it fell out on it's own in time for the second game. A couple of pictures:

Nathan's first game was also picture day. This turned out to be a disaster because it was less than organize and there was a lot of standing around and waiting. Add in that Nathan hadn't napped that day and was tired before it even began. It's no wonder it wasn't a stellar first time on the field.

Well, you're looking at the one and only time Nathan stepped on the field. Shortly after this picture was shot he came running of the field and refused to go back. He was tired and it was a new thing, so I understand. It really surprised me though. I figured he' have a great time. Oh well, we'll keep trying. He does great at practice so I'm thinking he'll eventually warm up to the idea of playing in a game. Only time will tell...

First, I'd like to apologize for being SO behind getting pictures posted. I'll try and get caught up soon.

Anyway, the reason for my post...Nathan's stitches are out! He had a dr's appointment today and they took out his stitches. He was a little champ and didn't complain. He has to wear a band-aid on it for a couple of week to make sure the old nail doesn't get torn off until the new one underneath gets a chance to start growing in. A couple of pictures from today:

Finger

Nathan had a check-up on his finger today and it's healing nicely. I wasn't prepared to see the pin sticking out of the end of his finger, but the finger was pink and looked good. The doctor wrapped it back up along with the rest of his arm to the elbow, and he keeps that on for 2 more weeks. When we go back, he gets the pin and stitches taken out.

A Rainy Day

Dustin was off work today (which means the folks of the kids I watch were too) so we decided to spend the cold rainy day at the Children's Museum.

Waiting in line. Silly us thought that there might be a lot of schools making up snow days, so it wouldn't be too busy. Nope, it was crazy busy. We still had a great time though.
